Del 2 – (om soloalbum) ”I’ll definitely start on one when this tour is finished”

J: The second question, at second place as well, from Shejken and the Carpenter, gaining 29% of the votes: You said that you consider releasing a solo album at some point. How would a solo album with Noel Gallagher differ from an oasis album where you’ve written all the tracks?
N: Not a great deal! [Noel och Johannes skrattar]
J: So why are you…
N: Why…? Just because… to do something different, to do something new. You know I think I was always… At the end of every album, I always thought that I could, even at the end of Don’t Believe the Truth and I love all my songs on that (album), I just thought that there is still a little way to go yet until I’m really satisfied. And then I wrote Falling Down and I though, ”Wow, I’ve done it now! I’ve written real psychadelic pop music!”. So I think there is time to do something different.
I’ve been listening to a lot of… a lot of different music, don’t ask who it is ‘cos I don’t know their complete setlist(?), I don’t know who they are. And I don’t know why now but I got a strong urge to do something new. But I don’t think it will impact on Oasis. ‘Cos we’ll take maybe eighteen months off after the tour and what I do in my spare time is my business.
J: But you think there will be a solo album after this tour is finished?
N: Yes, I think so. I’ll definitely gonna start one. Yeah.
J: You got any thoughts on what musicians you wanna have on such a record?
N ler: No no no, fuck that! I can play every instrument myself! I got a few songs that I stole from the last record, I got a few that’ve been nockin’ around for ages, Stop the clocks for instance I wrote that fuckin’ nine years ago. So it’s about time I do something ’bout that.
I’ve not made any concrete plans to what I’m gonna do. The only plan I’ve made is that I’m gonna do something. I’m not sure… I’ve said to everybody ”When the album is finish (Dig out Your Soul), I’m not really sure where we’ll go from here”. That’s not to say we’re not gonna go anywhere. But until I come out with a definitive idea of what Oasis should do next, I’m not gonna do anything. Because, I think [konstpaus] Dig Out Your Soul is a really really good Oasis album. And I think that every time we’ve tried to follow up a really good Oasis album, the following one has been pretty shitty. [skratt]
J: Meaning that, you don’t think that What’s the Story Morning Glory was that great.
N: Uhm, I’ve never… I mean I like the songs and so on, I wish I could re-record them tomorrow though, ‘cos then they would be a lot better.
But I mean like Standing on the Shoulder or the Giants really, we put that album out for the sake of it. When we really shouldn’t done anything.
I like, you know I like all our records. I think each individual record has got really really great moments on (it). I think the two records that had the least great moments on for me is Standing On the Should of Giants and Be Here Now. Those records were done really, because we didn’t really know what else to do, you know. You kinda get adicted to being on the road and being in a band and all that and its frightens to have time off…

J: How would you rank the Oasis albums? Which is the best, second best..?
N: Well I would always put first: Definitely Maybe because there’s something special about that album. Second… [Noel tänker] I think I would put Dig out your soul, and then Dig Out Your Soul, and then Morning Glory, and then Heathen Chemistry, and then Standing on the Shoulders of Giants and my least favourite is Be Here Now. I don’t like any of the words on Be Here Now [Noel skrattar till lite förläget], I just sat down and made them all up…
Which is, going back to the first question, I went away to write the words for that album, I didn’t let them come to me, D’yer know what I mean? And when I’m listening to it now I can hear the process of what I were trying to do… Makes me a bit contrite… Where all my lyrics just usually ”Bang!”, falls out from the sky, which I’m quite annoyed about.

[Någon slags person omkring bandet kommer in och försöker påkalla Noels uppmärksamhet om att vi börjar dra över tiden för intervjun]
N till denna person: We arn’t even halvway through this you know so you can just go.
(Noel och Johannes skrattar gott)

J: So, the question that got the most votes, 35%… Can you guess what it is?
N: Has it got anything to do with Liam?
J: No.
N: Good.
J: Sent in from Sandinista, in 2006 a number of Oasis fans and collectors gathered to buy a tape with some of your demos from 1989. After having listened to them and copied the tape they gave it back to you. Knowing there is a huge interest in things like this from your fans, d’you get more motivated to give out rare material such as demos, alternate versions of songs, live material and so on?
N: Ehm, I do recall the tape that you’re on about but the didn’t copy it and give me a copy. They still try to sell it, and don’t know if they’re through with it.
J: Oh
N: I havn’t got a copy of those songs.
J: D’you want one? I think I can get you one.
N: It might be interesting to listen to once. I’ll take it. Could be, I don’t know. I don’t remember any of the songs on in. Are there any elements to Oasis on it?
J: I don’t remember… I havn’t got it, it’s on the net somewhere…
N: Aha, I don’t really have a computer so I don’t follow shit like that. To answear the question, do I feel a need to put out rare material?
J: D’you feel more motivated?
N: It’s not really up to me. As strange as that sounds. What you hear on the record is usually the best. There are no outtakes for Morning Glory, there were one version – and that’s it. There’s another full album of Definitely Maybe stuff, we recorded that album twice. There’s a full other version of Don’t Believe the truth , we recorded that twice. Three times as a mather of fact! There is stuff knockin’ around but we didn’t release it because of a specific reason, we didn’t like it in the first place. So I don’t understand what would be the point of revisiting it.
Demos I don’t mind so much, ‘cos the demos are usually really good.
Alternative versions… There arn’t really that many…
J: Revolution Song and stuff like that?
N: Uhm, Re vo lution song… Yeah I actually start to record that about four months ago, properly. And didn’t finish it because… Eh, what the fook were I doing? The football season started? I think… Dunno something happened that I was in the studio and I was re-record it along with a lot of other songs that I hadn’t released. Just didn’t get off to doing it. Well I started it so maybe on day I’ll finish it…

Tredje delen av intervjun kommer på söndag då pratar Noel om nya potentialla låtar till nästa oasisalbum och till sitt eget soloalbum.
